New Energy Ecosystem: Structural Changes

4

Following our exploration of the six tailwinds pushing us towards the “New Energy Ecosystem,” this week, we look deeper at how the architecture changes.

  1. There is a greater demand for clean energy through the electrification of mobility, heating systems or even virtual worlds.
  2. We shift on the supply side from a few large, centralized facilities to thousands if not millions of decentralized highly volatile power producers (e.g. solar, wind).

Consequently, our systems will require massive storage facilities and greater connectivity. This shift poses massive entrepreneurial opportunity: whether it’s developing hardware to generate or store energy, building intelligent solutions to connect decentralized energy assets or envisioning new customer-facing products to achieve energy independence. When the architecture of a system changes, new opportunities pop up along the entire value chain.
